Holistic Mental Health Counseling in Colorado

Nakoma Garcia, LPC Licensed

Professional Counselor

Healing is not one-size-fits-all. I believe meaningful wellness involves caring for the mind, body, and nervous system—not simply addressing symptoms in isolation. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide a trauma-informed, integrative approach to mental health care that combines evidence-based psychotherapy with supportive wellness-focused approaches.

My work focuses on helping individuals navigate trauma, anxiety, chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, and nervous system dysregulation through compassionate, individualized care. My professional experience includes working with children, adolescents, adults, families, foster care, and community mental health, providing broad experience supporting clients through a variety of emotional and life challenges.

Over time, my passion has grown toward helping clients better understand the connection between emotional health, stress, trauma, and overall wellbeing.

In addition to traditional psychotherapy and EMDR, I may incorporate complementary wellness-supportive services such as biofeedback and other integrative approaches designed to promote relaxation, stress management, and self-regulation as appropriate within the therapeutic process.

I also have a growing passion for supporting women navigating chronic stress, emotional burnout, life transitions, and the emotional impact that may accompany hormonal changes such as perimenopause and menopause. My approach recognizes the important relationship between emotional wellness and physical wellbeing.

I am currently pursuing advanced doctoral education in integrative wellness-focused studies to further expand my understanding of whole-person approaches to care. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, empowered, and equipped with practical tools for meaningful healing and personal growth.

Whether you are healing from trauma, navigating anxiety, feeling emotionally depleted, or seeking a more holistic approach to emotional wellness, you do not have to do it alone.

Alexis Dunbar

Counselor Intern

Life can feel overwhelming at times, especially when stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, or life transitions begin to impact your sense of balance and emotional wellbeing. My goal is to provide a compassionate, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered as they work toward meaningful change.
As a counseling intern, I am committed to providing thoughtful, client-centered care while continuing to grow under professional supervision. I believe therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, authenticity, and connection, and I strive to create a safe environment where clients feel comfortable exploring challenges, building insight, and developing practical tools for healing and growth.
My approach is tailored to each individual’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Whether you are navigating anxiety, stress, emotional challenges, relationship concerns, life transitions, or personal growth, I aim to support you with compassion and encouragement throughout the therapeutic process.

I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients during difficult seasons, helping them strengthen resilience, improve coping skills, and move toward greater confidence and emotional wellness.

As an intern therapist practicing under supervision, Alexis is currently accepting new clients at a reduced self-pay rate, offering an affordable option for those seeking counseling support.
Healing does not require having everything figured out before you begin—sometimes the first step is simply having a safe place to start.

Ava Hegg

Counselor Intern

Ava graduated in May 2024 from Colorado Christian University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Psychology, with an emphasis in Clinical Counseling. She is currently a graduate student in the School of Counseling at CCU, continuing her internship in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Drawn to the counseling field by a desire to help others overcome life’s struggles and heal from hurts, Ava believes in the capacity of every individual to grow through adversity and to access their inner strengths and resilience.

She values the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative process in which healing, growth, and meaningful change can occur for both client and counselor.
Ava’s primary theoretical orientation is Adlerian, a holistic approach that emphasizes the influence of family of origin, individual perspective, and social context in shaping one’s personality and behavior. She believes in addressing the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, and values an integrative approach that supports clients in all areas of life.

Ava also believes strongly in the individual’s power to pursue meaningful goals and create change through intentional effort, healthy relationships, and support. While Adlerian theory informs her foundational perspective, she also draws from a range of therapeutic techniques to meet clients’ unique needs and presenting concerns. As a developing counselor, she is committed to lifelong learning as an essential part of her personal and professional growth.

Outside of her clinical training, Ava enjoys spending time with her family, which includes five children and four grandchildren, as well as enjoying the outdoors, reading, and investing in meaningful friendships.
